It’s back to work after a 4-day CNY break

Yayasan Suria JB (YSJB) – It’s back to work after a 4-day CNY break!

Yes, it was indeed a well-deserved ‘physical’ break in Ipoh for CNY but still busy coordinating with volunteers back in JB who carried on helping the Poor & Needy.

And after a 12-hour drive from Ipoh to JB on 24/1/2023, it was back to doing what I love most on 25/1/2023 – tending to our clients, the flood victims in Johor.

Coordinating with our synergy partner, Ihsan Johor, we visited a PPS (Pusat Permindahan Sementara) or Temporary Evacuation Centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Gembut, Kota Tinggi, Johor.

We brought along biscuits, 3-in-1 Milo, Maggi cup Mee, Promex milk, bread & buns, preloved adult & children’s clothing, soft toys, adult pampers, plastic plates & cups, etc.

Yayasan UEM (United Engineers Malaysia Bhd) also donated blankets, sanitary pads, floor mats, powdered milk & pampers which we took along for the flood victims.

Our Toyota Hilux managed to go through the flood waters as some parts of the road leading to the school were impassable to cars.

Going through the flood waters demanded driving skills – first was to take out your safety belt, never let your foot off the accelerator as the go through the floods, etc.

The 4WD developed some ‘squeaking’ sound after going through the floods as the fan belt was wet, we stopped to inspect and moved on knowing that it was nothing to worry about.

It is still raining now in Johor, has been so for the past 3 days continuously without stopping and, at time of writing, Johor has 51 PPS with 5,000 flood victims.

We shall be helping out in other areas, depending on their needs and the floods will keep us busy for quite some time. Volunteers are needed and we welcome you to hop on as we bring relief to those affected.

As a gesture of goodwill, especially during this CNY season, 32 packets of Ang Pows @ RM50 each were given to the flood victims – a small gesture but this meant a lot for someone who has lost all their belongings during the floods.

A small note of appreciation from the Ketua Kampong (Village Headman) said it all – they are happy and we are happier too for being able to be of help when they need it most!

Those wishing to help in any way to make life a bit easier for those affected by the floods, you can channel your support through YSJB.
We thank you for the generosity. Let us, together, show our sisters and brothers affected by the floods that we care about their welfare!
