Yayasan Suria JB (YSJB) – We are volunteers in Johor Bahru!
Lately, we have been getting a lot of inquiries as to what YSJB actually does from many people as we drive our Toyota Hilux around, covering some 5,000 km a month.
Curious looks as we stop at traffic lights and when we park our vehicle at the parking lots and outside our office, then we decided to ask the people why/what they are looking at and are so curious about.
Then, we found out why – many don’t read Bahasa Malaysia and English and today (10/10/2022), we decided to paste this Chinese sticker on the vehicle. Being a Chinese guy who doesn’t know how to read Chinese, I got one of our volunteers to have this sticker done FOC, literally the wordings mean 义务 volunteer & 慈善 charity, 2 words telling everything we do, our mission.
Now, as we travel around, we hope to let people know what we are doing – doing charity by volunteers without being paid!
Our response from volunteers has been good, even today, being a public holiday, we are still on our rounds as poor & hungry people have no holidays – they need to eat and we are there to serve them!
It was a busy day today, we had 3 volunteers in tow. Delivered food banks to 4 families (Ulu Tiram, Kempas, Tampoi & Plentong), gave cooked food, sanitizers, bread, Walls ice cream to a Home in Plentong with 68 children and 7 caregivers and went to visit En Teck Home in Kulai.
On the way back, we stopped by at Econsave Taman Daya to purchase onions, potatoes and garlic in bulk to pack for our clients – cheaper and more economical. This packing will be done by volunteers in our office tomorrow.
Looks like our volunteers have caught the “passion bug” to serve – they have found the true meaning of life, after all isn’t it serving humanity the highest form of happiness?
We are never short of volunteers now, sometimes we have to decline some requests to volunteer as our Toyota Hilux can comfortably sit only a total of 4 people.
If you want to experience volunteerism, just drop me a note or give me a ring and I shall be too happy to have you on board – listening to the many real life stories which I have been writing in my diary over the years.
