Embracing diversity in Malaysia for Charity!

Yayasan Suria JB (YSJB) – Embracing diversity in Malaysia for charity!

Much has been highlighted about the recent controversy surrounding the Convent school saga in JB and how racial/religious overtones are being played out.

However, at YSJB, we are a color-blind Foundation from Day 1, some 11 years ago when we were registered under ROS in 14th Sept 2012, helping anyone and everyone, irrespective of race/religion.

2 contrasting deaths occurring during this CNY involving 2 of our clients.

One was a Buddhist, who passed away on 19/1/2023, 2 days before CNY, I told our volunteers not to worry about those taboos (pantang) and 2 of our volunteers attended the wake in question.

We even gave RM500 as Pak Kam (condolence/bereavement money)!

I couldn’t attend this particular wake as I was on the way back to Ipoh for a 4-day CNY break.

On my way back to JB on 24/1/2023, I dropped by at Nilai to pay my respects to my parents and relatives – no taboos as my parents/relatives were more important than taboos!

The other one was a Catholic who died on 27/1/2023. Too poor to afford a lavish funeral, they requested for ‘goodies’ and we gave them to cook for those attending the wake.

A request came in from one of our volunteers and we obliged immediately, delivering to them.

“Request for the following:-
1. Rice 10 x 5KG
2. Noodle 2x Box
3. Sardine 24 cans
4. Cooking oil 10 pack.
5. Sugar.
6. Coffee/tea.
7. Milo.
8. Eggs.

Request from family of Iban in Plentong (one of food bank recipient) who passed away.

They want to cook for people arriving to pay their last respect in Plentong PPR.”

I personally paid my respects to the deceased family today, Sat, 28/1/2023, and when I was there, they were busy cooking the food for the guests arriving to pay their last respects.

For us at YSJB, our volunteers put our client’s interest first, always respecting our clients, no taboos, no protocols and serving them with L❤️ve & Humility – our hallmark!
